Nintendo Switch Successor: When Will It Release?

When Will the Switch Successor Release?

The Nintendo Switch successor is one of the most highly talked about objects in the gaming world right now. While there are plenty of ideas regarding what Nintendo might do next, there seems to be a general consensus that the next console will be a “Switch 2” of sorts.

Incorporating features like backward compatibility, a true successor could be seen as the ultimate Nintendo console. One area where most agree the Switch lacks is power. The next console is expected to wildly surpass the 2017 Switch in this area, which is running off of 2015-2016 hardware.

When Will the Nintendo Switch Successor Release?

Currently, Nintendo has yet to reveal the date for its next console or even a name. Quite frankly, while we know it exists they have yet to confirm anything about it. There are multiple times over the next year or so when it could release, however. First off, a launch in March 2024 could make a lot of sense.

This would mark seven years after the original Switch was released. Alongside this, it would also mark seven years since the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, is set to release on May 12, 2023.

For the second option, Nintendo could opt to release their next console in Holiday 2024. We saw both Microsoft and Sony release their next-gen consoles during this time frame, in the form of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, respectively.

Both of these consoles have sold relatively well for their time on the market. Xbox has sold around 20 million consoles, while PlayStation is over 30 million at this point. A holiday release with a heavy hitter title, such as a new 3D Mario, could be a huge hit.

When Will Nintendo Reveal Its Next Console?

If the Switch is anything to go by, it would make sense for Nintendo to reveal its console later this year if it is indeed launching next Spring. This gives the company around five to six months to build up momentum for the new console.

Nintendo could also opt to reveal the Switch 2 next year at some point, especially if it is released in the latter half of 2024. As we’ve seen with plenty of their titles, they are a company that likes to sit on announcements until just before release.

Plenty of games on the current Switch system could receive an immense upgrade on a true Switch 2. Games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2Fire Emblem Three Hopes, and more could benefit greatly from enhanced performance and resolution.

Whatever the case may be, we are looking forward to another fantastic year of the Nintendo Switch in 2023! With games like Metroid Prime Remastered and Fire Emblem Engage already out, it has been an amazing start to the year thus far.
