Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe adds quite a few new features to the original Wii game it remasters. Some big, some small, many of them cute, and one of them a collector’s dream: masks. These unlockables let Kirby and his pals wear masks of 80+ familiar faces from the entire Kirby franchise. Friends, foes, bosses, helpers; they’re all here to wear on your head in Story Mode and during sub-games. Some of them even play unique sound effects! As soon as you travel to Merry Magoland, the theme park of mini-games where you’ll acquire most of these souvenirs, you’re given two complementary ones: Waddle Dee and Rick the Hamster. The rest, you’ll need to earn. Here’s how to unlock all masks in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe.
Beat Story Mode
Clearing Story Mode is your first step toward unlocking all masks, and if you bought Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, there’s probably a good chance you were planning on doing this anyway. Enjoy your time with the game’s 30+ stages and collect any Energy Spheres you come across. These are important in your quest to unlock all masks too.
Beat Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler
This newly added challenging chapter of Return to Dream Land‘s story is a highlight of the package, and you’ll need to finish it as well. Practice juggling enemies and stringing together your attacks to build big combos and earn high marks at the end of each stage to unlock your powers more quickly and work toward unlocking a final stage in this mode.
Beat Extra Mode
Extra Mode is a more difficult, slightly remixed version of the Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe main story. Use your experience with your first playthrough to your advantage to tackle these new challenges and unlock more of the dress-up masks.
Complete All 100 Merry Magoland Missions
In Magolor’s wonderous sub-game playground, you can view missions that will challenge you to complete certain activities related to the mini-games. Each game has 7-9 missions each, some of them trivial, and some of them quite difficult. A final set of missions (15) involve mostly non-specific sub-game challenges, like playing any combination of them 50 times. Completing these missions will unlock a slew of masks for Kirby and friends.
100% Main Mode
This is the real challenge. When Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe refers to “Main Mode” they mean everything that isn’t Merry Magoland. Story Mode, Extra Mode, Magolor Epilogue, and the boss trials The Arena and The True Arena all need to be beaten, and beaten thoroughly.
- To 100% Story Mode you need to collect all 120 Energy Spheres in its stages and defeat its final boss
- To 100% Extra Mode you need to collect all 120 Energy Spheres in its stages and defeat its final boss
- To 100% Magolor Epilogue, you must clear all stages at Gold or higher, as well as complete the “Ordeal Door” challenges, before completing a final special stage
- The Arena and True Arena are boss rushes. Simply surviving them counts toward 100% completion
Do all of that and you’ll be much closer to collecting each and every mask. Don’t worry, only one last thing to do, and it’s much less difficult!
Grind Out The Remaining Merry Magoland Stamp Rallies
If there are any stamp rallies you haven’t completed in your quest to complete all 100 missions in Merry Magoland, it’s time to finish those up. You progress through each stamp rally with points earned from participating in sub-games. When you complete missions, play mini-games, or perform well in those games, you’re given stamps that complete these rallies, rewarding you with consumables for Main Mode, but more importantly, precious masks! This will be your final step in unlocking all masks in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Ease the pain of this grind by having fun in these mini-games with friends instead of repeatedly playing them like a chore!
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch. A free demo is also available to download, featuring three story stages and two sub-games from Merry Magoland for players to try.
