Nintendo plans to increase production of Nintendo Switch consoles as the current fiscal year comes to a close in March 2023. The company expects demand to increase as the chip shortage lessens its effect on production.
According to a new Bloomberg report, Nintendo will increase Switch production in April 2023 and beyond as the company’s 84th fiscal year proceeds. Nintendo has reportedly told suppliers and assembly partners that the company intends to release more Switch consoles in April. However, a specific target on how many consoles was not clarified.
A potential increase in Nintendo Switch demand may be linked to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releasing this May. Analysts claim that the game’s release may entice Switch owners to purchase another Switch console or persuade others buy one.
Previously, Nintendo had shifted its sales forecast down to 19 million for the current fiscal year due to supply constraints. Sources close to the company claim Nintendo is able to produce more Switch consoles in the upcoming year while maintaining strong demand.
Despite the console’s perceived momentum lessening during the 2022 holiday season, Nintendo Switch became the best-selling console of December in the U.S. The PlayStation 5 led in dollar sales for December 2022. Further, Nintendo Switch is the best-selling console of 2022.
Lastly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on May 12 for Nintendo Switch.
