Magical parkour, isekai, action RPG Forspoken‘s launch is upon us. With only seven days left before the new Square Enix title will be in players’ hands, the company has revealed the Forspoken PC system requirements. Though console owners aren’t afforded the myriad graphics options that come with PC releases, they have the peace of mind that the game will likely look nice and play well right out of the box. No driver updates or running to the store for more RAM required. However, PC gamers need to make sure their rig is ready when new software launches. Be warned, Forspoken‘s are pretty hefty if you want to run the game in HD or higher.
Forspoken – Minimum PC System Requirements / Specs
OS: Windows 10 64-bit (Post Nov 2019 Update) or Windows 11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i7-3770
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
Memory / RAM: 16GB
HDD/SDD Space: 150 GB or more
Square Enix specifies that if you meet these minimum system requirements, you’ll be running Forspoken at 720p, 30fps. Oof!
Forspoken – Recommended PC System Requirements / Specs
OS: Windows 10 64-bit (Post Nov 2019 Update) or Windows 11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700K
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
Memory / RAM: 24GB
SSD Space: 150GB or more
At these specs, users will be able to run Forspoken at 1440p, 30fps. While Square Enix hasn’t elaborated, it’s likely that with hardware in this range, you could also sacrifice graphics options and resolution to run the game at around 1080p, 60fps.
Forspoken – Ultra PC System Requirements / Specs
OS: Windows 10 64-bit (Post Nov 2019 Update) or Windows 11 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5800X or Intel Core i7-12700K
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
Memory / RAM: 32GB
SDD Space: NvMe SSD 150GB or more
This is where things get wild. To play Forspoken at native 4K, 60fps, PC gamers will need 32GB of memory (only around 14% of Steam users rock this much RAM), 150GBs free on an NVMe SSD (a newer, more performant kind of SSD), and a top of the line GPU and CPU.
There is hope if you want to play Forspoken at a high resolution and framerate. Image reconstruction technology like AMD’s FSR and NVIDIA’s DLSS could come to the rescue. Either of these would allow for players with lower spec hardware to run the game natively at a resolution like 1080p, have the image reconstructed to 4K with little loss in detail or quality, and then afford the extra processing power for 60fps. It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether Forspoken will support either of these features, but things are looking up. According to respected game tech expects Digital Foundry, the PS5 version of the game appears to be using AMD’s FSR2. Therefore, it’ll likely be an option on PC.
Should I play Forspoken on PC or PS5?
If you’re a gamer who happens to have both a PC and a PS5, playing on Sony’s system might be the way to go. These system requirements imply a fairly unoptimized PC release, and it’s safe to assume that the PS5 was their target platform. With six graphics settings to choose from on PlayStation, you also won’t be hurting for resolution or framerate options the way most console releases do compare to their Steam counterparts.
Square Enix’s Luminous Productions developed Forspoken will release on PS5 and PC on January 24. Stay tuned to Final Weapon for more updates on the title.
