Square Enix Shares Happy New Year Video Featuring Yoko Taro, Naoki Yoshida, and More

    Yoko Taro explores the meaning of a happy new year.

    Square Enix released a new video looking back at 2022, celebrating the holidays, and welcoming the new year with prominent developers. The happy New Year’s video features some of Square Enix’s most prolific developers such as Yoko Taro, Naoki Yoshida, Yoshinori Kitase, and Tomoya Asano.

    Naoki Yoshida starts the video by welcoming fans into 2023, the 10th anniversary year for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Additionally, Final Fantasy XVI, the next mainline title in the long-running series, releases in just six months. Square Enix plans to share more news about Final Fantasy XVI before release as the development team prepares the project for gold status.

    Tomoya Asano states that Square Enix released a lot of new games in 2022. Asano and his team hope fans continue to the support the company with the impending release of Octopath Traveler II. Producer Kei Hirono is preparing to launch Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster across Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in spring 2023. Further into the video, many more developers share well-wishes to Square Enix fans including Yoshinori Kitase, Yoko Taro, and Yosuke Saito. Specifically, Yoko Taro discusses what makes each new year “happy.”
