Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Electric Gym Leader Iono – How to Beat

Located in Levincia, Iono is the Electric-type Gym Leader of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The recommended level to face her is Level 24. Be sure to have a team with Pokémon around that level and some ground types.

    Iono’s Pokémon Team

Since Iono is the Electric-type Gym Leader, her team is composed primarily of electric-type Pokémon.

    • Wattrel: Lvl 23 – Type: Electric/Flying – Moves: Pluck, Quick Attack, Spark
    • Bellibolt: Lvl 23 -Type: Electric – Moves: Water Gun, Spark
    • Luxio: Lvl 23- Type: Electric – Moves: Spark, Bite
    • Mismagius: Lvl 24 – Type: Ghost – Moves: Charge Beam, Hex, Confuse Ray

    Tactics

Using ground-type Pokémon are a safe bet to use against Iono. She does have some tricks up her sleeve that will throw a wrench in your plans if you think all you need is ground-type Pokémon. Wattrel is also a flying type, making it immune to ground-type attacks. I recommend a rock type as a counter-pick. Iono’s signature Bellibolt knows Water Gun, making it a danger to your ground-type Pokémon. Be sure to have some Revives and Potions since ground-type Pokémon are the only type that is super effective to electric-type Pokémon. Iono’s Mismagius knows Hex and Confuse Ray, which are moves that can be dangerous. Hex does double damage when your Pokémon is under the effect of a status, so if one of your Pokémon gets paralyzed by Iono beware of Mismagius. Confuse Ray can add some irritation by confusing your Pokémon, making them hurt themselves when they attempt to attack. In terms of terastalling, Iono can of course do that. All of her Pokemon are Electric-Tera Types, including Mismagius. If Mismagius is terastallized ground-type moves won’t give you any advantage as its ability is Levitate, which nullifies ground-type attacks.
