Kingdom Hearts series surpasses 36 million copies sold

A major milestone during the 20th anniversary.

Square Enix released its annual report the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2022 and revealed the Kingdom Hearts series surpassed 36 million copies sold worldwide. The sales figure includes physical shipments and digital copies sold.

The Kingdom Hearts slide in the annual report depicts Kingdom Hearts IV and Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link as major upcoming titles. Release windows for each title are still to be determined. However, the Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link closed beta is expected to launch before the end of 2022.

The series overview reads, “Kingdom Hearts is a series of role-playing games created
through the collaboration of Disney and Square Enix. Since the first Kingdom Hearts was released in March 2002 for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the series
has expanded with several additional entries. The series is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has shipped over 36 million units worldwide.”

Kingdom Hearts IV marks the beginning of the Lost Master Arc, which follows directly after the events of Kingdom Hearts III: ReMind and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. The upcoming Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link game serves to fill in the gaps between the end of Kingdom Hearts Union χ and the rest of the games.

Kingdom Hearts IV is currently in development at Square Enix, and the annual report may be read here.
