SEGA announced a major update for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis releases on August 3, introducing the Waker class and many quality of life improvements.
Waker
The Waker class specializes in the use of the Harmonizer weapon and the summoning of familiars. Wakers may summon three familiars: Fredran, Wulfen, and Marmelo. Fredran specializes in long ranged attacks, Wulfen is a close-range focused familiar, and Marmelo focuses on a strong defense with counterattacks. Wakers may consume the Harmonizer focus gauge to unleash a powerful Familiar Harmony move. Moreover, Welmina is the Waker class instructor for ARKS operatives.
Side Content
The new August 3 update for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis features a new side story titled ‘Favors of the Five’ and new mini episodes. To access this new content, players must first complete Chapter 3 of the main story. Alongside new side content, new trials and adjustments are introduced with the August 3 update. Emperappy and Great Rappy make their appearance in new trials, and new settings are available in Trainia and Battledia.
Features and Adjustments
New features are being introduced with the new update for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Characters may be enhanced with all-new Add-on Skills, and only one may be applied for each class. Assist NPCs will be present in Battle Sectors to new and seasoned players in battle. Additionally, various quality of life adjustments will be applied:
- Easier exchange of Augment Capsules
- Multiple SG tickets are redeemable at once
- Additional ARKS ID options
- Sorting functions in the main menu
- Alliance Task Records
- Improved Simple Creation
- Detailed voice settings
- Improved Room Transfers
- Play Navigator
- Simple model changes and detail display (PC version)
August 17 Update
On August 17, a new update introduces more new content such as the Cannonball Rumble quest and new augments. The new ARKS Records event will be held from August 17 to August 24 with new rewards such as weapon camos, N-EX-Cubes, and Arms Refiners. A new Kvaris Urgent quest, Scratch Tickets, and much more will be added as well.
Hololive Collaboration
On August 24, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis collaborates with Hololive Production. New outfits, accessories, and voices from VTubers Shirakami Fubuki, Ninomae Ina’nis, and Kageyama Shien will be available. Furthermore, collaboration items from official NGS VTubers Sabakuro and Popona are coming on August 24.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in the west. Lastly, the PlayStation 4 version releases on August 31 worldwide.
