    The Pokémon Company reports historic fiscal year financial results

    A Japanese government filing for The Pokémon Company revealed historic fiscal year financial results ending on February 28th, 2022. It was a record year for the company throughout 2021 and the early months of 2022. This period saw the releases of New Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Legends Arceus, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl for Switch.

    According the fiscal year results, sales rose to 204 billion yen ($1.6 billion), which is up 70.4% from the previous fiscal year. Operating profit rose by an impressive 115% to 59 billion yen ($460 million). Net profit for The Pokémon Company rose to 41 billion yen ($320 million), which is up by an insane 123% year-over-year.

    Merchandise, games, and anime contributed to the massive growth across all sectors of Pokémon business. Currently, the lineup for 2022 is not as stacked as the past fiscal year with the only upcoming major release being Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The new Switch games are expected to be a major success as Pokémon enters another new generation.

    Nintendo’s financial results disclosed on May 10th revealed updated sales numbers for Pokémon games on the Switch. Here are sales figures for the most recent games in the franchise as of March 31st, 2022:

    • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Pokémon Shining Pearl – 14.65 million
    • Pokemon Legends Arceus -12.64 million
    • New Pokemon Snap – 2.40 million
