Yakuza: Like a Dragon sequel “story climax” is being written

At the recent Yakuza Super Talk Stage show at Niconico Chokaigi 2022, producer Masayoshi Yokoyama shared new details about the upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon sequel. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s writing team is currently working on the “story climax” of the sequel. Development is progressing as intended and some of the actors have started voice recording.

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio plan to share more details this year. Internally, the game is still referred to as Yakuza 8. The previous game was titled as Yakuza: Like a Dragon in worldwide markets instead of Yakuza 7. The Yakuza: Like a Dragon sequel stars Ichiban Kasuga and likely takes place a year or two after the previous RGG Studio game, Lost Judgment. Their games usually taking place one year or a few years after another in Japan through a single continuity, normally around December. However, the stories of the Judgment and Yakuza series don’t intertwine.
