Rumor: Resident Evil 4 Remake draws inspiration from original RE4 betas, possible early 2022 reveal

In a new report at Fanbyte, reputable journalist Imran Khan shared some details of the unannounced Resident Evil 4 Remake. According to Khan, various sources from the outlet gathered information regarding development at Capcom. Development of the remake was originally in the hands of studio M-Two led by Tatsuya Minami. Capcom hoped to get the original RE4 director Shinji Mikami on board with the project. The studio name “M-Two” was decided by Minami as part of the plan to reunite with old friend Mikami and work on the remake. However, Mikami declined the offer due to his obligations at Tango Gameworks. Capcom would shift development of the project over to their internal team while still using M-Two as a support studio.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake draws inspiration from the original RE4 betas, shifting the tone to a scarier overall game. For instance, the village introduction portion of the game is now set at night along with more parts of the game originally set during the day. Side characters will play a bigger role in the remake. Additionally, Ada Wong will have an expanded campaign to further flesh out the remake’s story. M-Two was on board for expanding her role in the remake and that continues to be the case internally at Capcom. Lastly, Capcom is hoping to announce the remake within early 2022 but plans could change.
