Nexon announced today that development of the Final Fantasy XI reboot for mobile is cancelled. The company was developing the game alongside Square Enix since 2015. According to both companies, the project did not meet the quality standards that fans expect from Final Fantasy. Staff from the project are now relocated to other projects within Square Enix and Nexon.

Its unfortunate to see the game cancelled but at least there’s plenty of Final Fantasy games coming soon. The definitive version of Final Fantasy XI is also out on Steam. Stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and support us via Patreon!
