Crunchyroll has been acquired by Sony’s Funimation Global Group for $1.175 billion

It’s an exciting time for anime fans with the industry still being active during the pandemic. Throughout this time, a rumored purchase by Sony had been in the air for a while. We can now confirm that Sony has acquired Crunchyroll from AT&T for $1.175 billion and will merge it with Funimation. Many fans hoped to see these two services merge with all their anime offerings and it’s finally happening! For now, the two services will still act independently until the deal closes.
