Nintendo cancels 5th annual Splatoon Koshien tournament in Tokai due to coronavirus concerns

Nintendo today announced that the Tokai region leg of their 5th annual Splatoon Koshien tournament and Ikasu Culture Festival has been canceled due to concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak.

Originally going to be held on March 20th and 21st in Nagoya, Nintendo said that they wanted to prioritize the health and safety of event attendees and players, especially considering that the Aichi Prefecture has the third-largest amount of infections in Japan so far.

Nintendo states that they’re currently monitoring the situation and will wait to announce whether or not the National Finals will be held in April. They also mentioned that every team except one from the Tokai region would be represented in the National Finals.
