    Square Enix details growth and ability system, appearance changes and much more for Trials of Mana

    Square Enix has released a ton of new details about Trials of Mana today, including the growth/ability system, appearance changes and more! Thanks to Gematsu, we have all the details below, summarized and provided with screenshots.

    Growth/Ability System

    First, Trials of Mana’s growth system includes basic stats like HP and strength. Growth points may be used to unlock special skills and abilities. Growth points may be used to boosts stats just like in other JRPGs as well. Special skills obtained by using growth points may be used on the field as special skill Ring Commands. Character abilities may be used in different combinations of teams, updated for ease of use in this remake.

    Abilities may be equipped and include special effects. They may enhance stats even further as well. More abilities may be unlocked by deepening bonds with characters and equipped while advancing classes. In addition, Link abilities may be shared and used between characters. Some abilities are exclusive to certain classes. There are over 300 abilities in the game, a ton of possibilities to explore!

    New Features

    Trials of Mana includes many new features not found in the original 1995 release. Class changes in this remake include paths for Light and Darkness. A class reset option is available by talking to a Mana Stone and using Goddess Scales. Characters may reach new heights never seen before in the original game with these features.

    New to Trials of Mana are run-ins, where the protagonist may talk to party members as they roam around towns.

    Seeds may be obtained from defeating enemies in the field. Those same seeds may be planted at inns and grown to obtain items/equipment. There are 5 types of seeds:

    • Item seeds
    • Silver Item seeds
    • Gold Item seeds
    • Rainbow Item seeds
    • ??? seeds

    Seed drops from monsters and items gained from plants are based by the player’s level. Higher levels mean better rewards!

    • Brand new items not found in the original release
    • Shortcuts for items and abilities
    • Collective recovery feature (similar to heal all in JRPGs like Dragon Quest)
