Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi are aiming high for the next Gran Turismo game. Although the next entry in the series hasn’t been announced yet, fans are expecting it for the PS5. Every generation of the PlayStation home console has received Gran Turismo games and PS5 will be no exception.
GT Sport has already been used to show off 8K resolutions although the PS4 could never reach that feat. The PS5 will support such a resolution but Yamauchi and Polyphony are aiming for frame rate. They will be pushing graphical fidelity of course, but the gap between PS4 and PS5 in visuals will not be a leap like in the past. Yamauchi says that graphical leaps from PS1 to PS2 just aren’t possible anymore. However, the team wants to aim at delivering high graphical showcases with 120fps and even 240fps on the PS5. That way, perception and motion are heightened for a greater experience. Here’s Yamauchi’s official words on the matter, courtesy of GTPlanet:
“Rather than a spatial resolution that you’re talking about, I’m more interested in the advancements we can make in terms of the time resolution. In terms of frames per second, rather than staying at 60 fps, I’m more interested in raising it to 120 fps or even 240 fps. I think that’s what’s going to be changing the experience from here on forward.”
