Xbox Secures Exclusive Cloud Streaming Rights for Grand Theft Auto VI

Xbox Cloud Gaming may be the only way for people to play GTA VI on PC, for now.

According to The Verge, Asha Sharma recently told Microsoft employees that Xbox will have exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI. As a result, Xbox Cloud Gaming users will be able to stream the game on various devices, including PC.

UPDATE: Matthew Ball, CSO of Xbox, stated the following in response to The Verge report: “While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.” It is unknown if it will be available stream on Smart TVs and mobile devices, despite the lack of PC support.

Xbox Cloud Gaming supports Samsung, LG, and Amazon Smart TVs, select iOS and Android devices, PCs that run Windows 10 20H2 or later, as well as Xbox consoles (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X). It is worth noting that, starting in November, Xbox is limiting the amount of hours that Game Pass subscribers can use to play games on the Cloud. Specifically, Game Pass Ultimate users will only have a monthly allowance of 15 hours, Premium users will have 10 hours, and Essential users will have 5 hours. Those who have no more available hours, or are not subscribed to the service, can purchase more hours on the Xbox Store.

Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and pre-orders are now live. The standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will cost $80, while the Ultimate Edition is $100. The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI will not include a disc and instead, there will be a download code in a box.

Following its initial premiere on Netflix, Rockstar Games released its “Extended Look” video for Grand Theft Auto VI with 26 minutes of in-game PlayStation 5 footage on YouTube and the game’s official website. Grand Theft Auto VI will seemingly run at 30 FPS at launch, despite Rockstar marketing it as being “best on PlayStation 5” in the Extended Look video.

Recently, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, comprised of 34 original tracks, will release on November 19. The album is available to pre-save and pre-order, the latter of which specifically applies to the limited edition vinyl and CD sets. In addition, a merchandise collection will also be available to order for $399.99.
