Sony Santa Monica has announced that God of War Laufey will receive a physical disc release at launch. This seemingly confirms that it will release in 2027.
The announcement comes in the wake of PlayStation announcing that it is ending all physical disc production in January 2028, meaning that all future games released afterwards on PlayStation consoles will release exclusively in digital format. This confirmation means that, while games like Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War: Laufey, titles like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophecy may not get the same treatment. Currently, Sony has not elaborated on the decision or responded to the overwhelming negative feedback as of late.
On July 24 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM PDT, PlayStation will hold a panel that focuses on God of War Laufey during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Panelists include Game Director Ariel Lawrence, Santa Monica Studio Head of Creative Cory Barlog, Deborah Ann Woll (Laufey), Chris Judge (Kratos), Jack Quaid (Phranque), and Perlina Lau (Rue). The panel will mostly focus on behind-the-scenes insights.
Currently, the release date and release window for God of War Laufey is unknown. That said, considering all physical disc production will end by January 2028, it seems like it will release beforehand. In the meantime, the PlayStation Blog reveals more details about the upcoming release:
