Astrolabe Games has released the “A-Go Manifesto,” which confirms its intention to release all future titles on PlayStation 5 physical discs. It also showcases a sizzle reel, revealing some of those future games.
All games as part of the program must be submitted to Astrolabe on or before June 1, 2027, so that it may release in the second half of the year or earlier. Only a few exceptions to the program are mentioned, which include the following:
- Platform holders introducing new policies that make production impossible.
- Regional distribution partners reaching capacity as the production deadline approaches.
- Distribution partners being unable to accommodate the consignment requirements of smaller publishers.
- Developers being unable to deliver a qualified PS5 master build by the required deadline.
- Titles that do not have a PlayStation 5 version.
- Developers choosing not to proceed with the production of a PlayStation 5 version.
The following Astrolabe Games projects will receive physical editions on PlayStation 5:
- Gurei – Expected Q4 2026
- Fall Up – Expected First Half 2027
- OMEGA PHENEX COMMENCED PROJECT SIX – Expected Second Half 2027
The news comes in direct response to PlayStation’s recent announcement that it is ending all physical disc production in January 2028, meaning that all future games released afterwards on PlayStation consoles will release exclusively in digital format. In addition, services for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita storefronts will end by 2027. In a statement, PlayStation elaborated on the choice, stating that “This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs. This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today.”
