Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Releases in 2026

Carry over worlds from the original Switch version.

Nintendo and Mojang have announced that a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Minecraft will release in 2026. It features enhanced lighting and the ability to transfer saves from the original Switch version. 

Currently, it is unknown whether or not the Nintendo Switch 2 edition will be a free upgrade for original Switch owners, or if the upgrade pack will release at a cost. However, the trailer shows off the inclusion of recent major updates, such as new baby mods and the rideable Ghast. Mojang will likely reveal the exact release date for the Switch 2 version of Minecraft at a later date. Check out the trailer for Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 edition below:

In the meantime, Minecraft Dungeons II will release on September 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Windows. The recent trailer shows off the gameplay for the upcoming new entry, which is available now to pre-order for $29.99. Those who order it early can get two hero skins, a twisted cape, and a twisted chicken pet. The deluxe edition, which costs $49.99, includes the Soul cape, Blub pet, 4 hero skins, and DLC 1 & 2 upon release.
