Nintendo have announced that the upcoming Star Fox will get an update on day 1 when it launches on June 25. The patch will include core features such as the game’s Battle Mode and GameChat avatars.

Star Fox is a reimagining of Star Fox 64, which seeks to bring the classic game to a new generation with modern presentation and features. The update includes GameChat features, such as AR filters and avatars of the Star Fox characters, allowing players to appear as members of the crew (a USB camera is required). The 4v4 Battle Mode will also come in the day 1 update, allowing for either online multiplayer or offline play against CPUs.

Star Fox is available now to pre-order through the Nintendo eShop for $49.99. It is also available physically for $59.99, both through My Nintendo and retailers. Star Fox will be the first mainline game in the series since Star Fox Zero on the Nintendo Wii U, which also attempted to retell the story of Star Fox 64. On the game’s eShop page, Nintendo describes it as such:

Blast off on a high-octane adventure

Step into the cockpit and fly across the stars and skies with Fox McCloud and the Star Fox™ team! With the Lylat system under attack by evil scientist Andross, it’s up to you and the squad to fend off his forces.

Save a star system from invasion

Blast your way through enemies in a fast-paced adventure that will have you tearing through space, soaring across planets, and shooting loads of foes out of the sky at every turn.

A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story

Featuring new fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system.
