Square Enix has seemingly removed the demos for the Kingdom Hearts Cloud Version ports on Nintendo Switch. This has spurred hopes that native ports for Nintendo Switch 2 are on the horizon.
User KHMLTomorrow noticed the change and compared the eShop page to Donkey Kong Bananza to show the difference. He also noted that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories, which received a native port to Nintendo Switch, still has a playable demo. Currently, all the ports are still available to purchase on the Nintendo eShop. Check out the full comparison below:
Square Enix initially released the Cloud Version ports of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind for Nintendo Switch in 2022, not long after the release of Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Since its release, the Kingdom Hearts franchise has made the jump to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. As such, fans have been hoping for a way to play the Kingdom Hearts games on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 without the Cloud Versions’ requirement for streaming through an Internet connection. Only time will tell if these hopes become reality.
Kingdom Hearts IV is currently in development at Square Enix. Announced in 2022, it will take place in Quadratum following Sora after the events of Kingdom Hearts III. Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Quadratum will act as the “hub” for the early portions of the game and that there will be a “Lost Masters” antagonist group. While there has largely been no news regarding the development of the game, a development update was shared in May 2025, revealing new screenshots of the game and promising fans more information in due time.
