The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Opens With $34 Million Dollars in Box Office

The best opening day of 2026 so far, and the best ever April Wednesday for theaters.

According to Deadline, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has opened to a revenue of $34 million dollars so far after just one day. Additionally, it had the best opening day of any film in 2026 so far and the best of any April Wednesday in cinema history. 

Previously, The Super Mario Bros. Movie held the record of best April Wednesday, as it premiered with $31.7 million dollars in revenue. The film would go on to $1.36 billion. Seeing as how The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already grossed higher on its opening day, the sequel may go on to make more money overall compared to its predecessor. 

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie released on April 1. It stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan Michael Key as Toad, Anya Taylor Joy as Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. Brie Larson, the Academy Award winning actress from Room and Captain Marvel, voices Rosalina. Benny Safdie, director of The Smashing Machine and Uncut Gems, who has also acted in Oppenheimer and Obi-Wan Kenobi, voices Bowser Jr. 

The film also features Luis Guzmán (WednesdayPunch Drunk Love) as Wart, Issa Rae (BarbieSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) as the Honey Queen, and Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars StoryAtlantaCommunity) as Yoshi. Most recently, Nintendo and Illumination revealed that Glen Powell (The Running ManTwistersTop Gun: MaverickHit Man) plays the role of Fox McCloud

Lastly, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are available now on Nintendo Switch for $39.99. Final Weapon reviewed Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2  and rated it a 4.5/5.
