In a new PlayStation Blog post, Sucker Punch has revealed new details about the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei Legends mode. The mode releases tomorrow as a free update.
According to Sucker Punch, the mode’s development started alongside the single-player campaign’s. It’s meant to be a mythic retelling of the events of the main narrative, with the Yōtei Six antagonists taking the form of demonic monsters rather than powerful warlords. Each boss has various enemies that are unique to it, such as the Kitsune with elite soldiers called the “Snow Woman.”
There are four main classes to play as, each with a focus weapon. The Samurai has the Odachi, the Archer has the Yari, the Mercenary has dual katanas, while the Shinobi has the Kusarigama. They can use other weapons beyond their focus and upgrade their abilities via a “tech tree.” You can pick from four different difficulty levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The higher you go, the greater the challenge and the more XP you get.
Various cosmetics will be available to use for the four main classes as you play. Additionally, you can pick to play either story missions or survival missions with friends or by yourself. Survival in particular is a four-player mode where you have to defend an area or fight against waves of enemies. Next month, the game’s first raid will be available. The lobby in Ghost of Yōtei Legends also has various mini-games to play through with your friends, such as the base game’s coin-flicking game.
Ghost of Yōtei is available now on PlayStation 5. Final Weapon reviewed the game, rating it a 4/5, and described it as a “great evolution by the foundation that Sucker Punch built with Ghost of Tsushima. While the story feels like a retread of every other revenge story of the past few years, complete with the same frustrating pitfalls, the characters, new gameplay mechanics, and extra content make for a game that will hook you from beginning to end.”
