Onyx Steel can craft the most powerful weapons in The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon, and they’re undoubtedly useful in the endgame. With this guide, you’ll know exactly how to get Onyx Steel in Trails beyond the Horizon and how to use it to craft weapons for Van and the rest of the star-studded roster.
In the Finale chapter, the Onyx Steel Forge will become available at the Epstein Workshop in Grim Garten and all orbment stations. There, you can use Onyx Steel to create unique and powerful weapons for the party—24 in total. Fortunately, Onyx Steel is rather easy to gather up thanks to numerous sources in the game, unlike the once fabled Zemurian Ore of past Trails games.
How to Get Onyx Steel in The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon
Once the Onyx Steel Forge is unlocked, you can trade 10 U-Material+ for 1 Onyx Steel at the Epstein Workshop or orbment station, so you won’t need to scour for Onyx Steel this time. However, U-Material+ is somewhat uncommon to obtain. You can save your U-Material+ and earn Onyx Steel by completing various achievements in Trails beyond the Horizon.
You can earn 3 Onyx Steel by earning the 1,000,000 Mira Earned achievement. This achievement should come naturally if you’re grinding Grim Garten and selling Sepith Mass as you obtain it throughout the game.
An additional 3 Onyx Steel can be obtained by completing the achievement EX: All Treasure Chests With Orbal Locks Opened. There are a total of 14 treasure chests with orbal locks, but if you have the Golden Eye Shard Skill enabled on at least one party member, the chests are very easy to find as long you leave no chest unopened.
In the Grim Garten, you can earn Onyx Steel from Monster Chest tiles in the Ninth Domain, as well as from the final boss of the Ninth Domain, which I won’t spoil. If you manage to get an S-Rank from the domain, you earn the Grim Garten: Ninth Domain S-Ranked achievement, which awards 6 Onyx Steel.
