Final Fantasy XIV Hit with Several DDoS Attacks at Start of 2026

Not a fun week to be a player in North America.

Final Fantasy XIV servers in North America have not been in a great state at all since New Year’s Day due to a high frequency of DDoS attacks. These DDoS attacks directly impacted the Final Fantasy XIV community’s ability to log into North American Data Center Worlds for multiple days at a time, from December 25 all the way to January 8.

Understandably, the response from the Final Fantasy XIV community has been one of frustration and disappointment, especially with the timing of the attacks. The Savage difficulty for The Arcadion: Heavyweight Raid was released on January 6, which unfortunately coincided with the DDoS attacks. Square Enix has since posted recovery notices on the official Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone, so players should be able to login and play without issue. It’s worth keeping an eye out on the game’s official support account and Lodestone for any further updates on the matter, however.

The news comes just a few weeks removed from the launch of the Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.4 “Into the Mist” update. Patch 7.4 and subsequent updates bring new Main Scenario Quests, dungeon, trial, Arcadion raid series tier, Variant & Criterion Dungeon, new additions to the Duty Support system, and updates to PvP, Gold Saucer, Occult Crescent, Cosmic Exploration. The update also introduces a collaboration with FANTASIAN Neo Dimension featuring attire sets inspired by Leo, Kina, and Cheryl’s outfits.

Patch 7.41 through 7.45 will introduce the following content:

  • Phantom Weapon Updates (Patch 7.41)
  • Cosmic Exploration – New Planet – Oizys (Patch 7.41) – The latest planet for crafters and gatherers to explore, as well as new rewards and system updates
  • New Variant Dungeon (Patch 7.45) – Merchant’s Tale – Players can enjoy the content with different ways to play and difficulty levels to suit their playstyles
  • Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures (Patch 7.45)

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Fans can also look forward to Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, which will span across three events in North America, Europe, and Japan in 2026.
