Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo discussed the company’s future with Nintendo Switch 2 on the market, along with the potential of a Trails in the Sky the 3rd or Trails from Zero remake, in a second interview with Dengeki Online.
According to Kondo, Nintendo Switch 2 is a part of the studio’s future, and the team is working on releasing Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter as soon as possible. Falcom plans to continue supporting platforms they develop for, such as PlayStation 5 and Switch, but PlayStation 4 is uncertain. It’s likely that Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will release on the same platforms as the first remake.
There’s a debate within Falcom about developing a remake of Trails in the Sky the 3rd or Trails from Zero, according to Kondo. There’s a strong belief and support behind starting remakes of the Crossbell games sooner, despite the 3rd holding important lore for the series. Kondo also spoke on remaking the first two Trails of Cold Steel games, but he said it would be tough when considering merging both into one game. There are no current plans for any other remakes, however.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is available now for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Final Weapon reviewed Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and gave it a 4.5/5, noting that the game is “the perfect introduction to Trails, with an outstanding cast, engaging gameplay, and a world impossible not to get invested in. The slow-burning narrative, while very enjoyable, can lead to monotonous sections of the game, but this is just a minor gripe considering the massive adventure at hand. New and old fans alike will fall in love with what is assuredly one of the best RPGs of the year.”
