Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Dear Destiny Novel from Kazushige Nojima Announced

A sequel to Traces of Two Pasts.

Tonight, Square Enix officially revealed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Dear Destiny, a new light novel from Kazushige Nojima set to release on January 30, 2026, in Japan. This novel is a sequel to Traces of Two Pasts, a light novel that explored the pasts of both Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough. 

According to the Square Enix StoreFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth Dear Destiny will follow the pasts of Tifa Lockhart and Aerith Gainsborough once again. It will also include a story about Cloud’s time in Shinra. On the front cover, Tifa and Aerith are seen in the structures that hold up Midgar, while Cloud’s Buster Sword leans against a column. Currently, there is no release date listed for the novel outside Japan.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Traces of Two Pasts was released on November 8, 2022, in the United States. The novel explored the pasts of both Tifa and Aerith before the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Some elements of this novel were explored in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. One example directly pulled from the novel is Tifa’s cat named Fluffy, which received a full sidequest of its own.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to release for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on January 22, 2026. The third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is currently in development.
