Netflix has announced Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, a new anime film directed by Shingo Yamashita (Chainsaw Man, 2022 Urusei Yatsura). Cosmic Princess Kaguya! will premiere on January 22, 2026, exclusively on Netflix, and the film’s first official trailer and key visual were revealed.
The new anime film stars:
- Yuko Natsuyoshi as Kaguya
- Anna Nagase as Iroha
- Saori Hayami as Yachiyo
Shingo Yamashita makes his feature-length directorial debut in collaboration with Studio Colorido (Burn the Witch) and his own studio, Studio Chromato. Yamashita is acclaimed for this work on the opening sequences for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura.
Hechima and Akihiro Nagae are the character designers. The film includes music by vocaloid producer Ryo (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot.
“This is my first full-length original animated film.” Yamashita said in an interview with Netflix. “I poured into it everything I’ve learned about visual expression, my love for unique characters, and my deep affection for the internet culture that’s continued since the 1990s. It’s a bright, fun film — so please sit back, relax, and enjoy it!”
The story of Cosmic Princess Kaguya! focuses on the dream-filled virtual realm of Tsukiyomi with a reimagined take on the Japanese legend, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.
