Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Releases on January 15

Nintendo has announced that a Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will release on January 15, 2026. Alongside it, a free update which adds new features, new amiibo functionality, and more will release on the same day. 

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will cost $64.99. The upgrade pack for those who own the original game costs $4.99. The new edition will add 4K visuals, the ability to redecorate and write messages using the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, a Megaphone which utilizes the Switch 2’s mic, and the ability to play with up to 12 players at a time instead of 8. You can also use GameChat and the Switch 2 camera while playing with friends. 

Additionally, both Switch and Switch 2 players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be able to access the new free Version 3.0 update. The update will add a resort hotel hosted by the Kapp’n family, plus the ability to decorate guest rooms inside the hotel. You can also craft multiple items at a time, invite guests using Amiibo, upgrade storage size, a dream world which allows you to create an entire island at will, and collaborations featuring LEGO items, plus characters from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Splatoon franchise.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will release on January 15, 2026 for $64.99, with the upgrade pack priced at $4.99. On the same day, Version 3.0 of the game will release for both Switch and Switch 2.
