Square Enix has released new details and screenshots for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake to introduce the start of each journey for the Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II protagonists. As previously announced, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake includes new content in each journey that wasn’t available in the original releases of Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will launch simultaneously worldwide on Thursday, October 30, 2025, across multiple platforms. This title is a full remake that combines Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II—which depict the world after Dragon Quest III—into one game. Not only does it feature a new scenario, but it has also evolved in various ways, including new areas, new dungeons, new encounters and new formidable foes. Additionally, gameplay elements like sigils and scrolls have been added, while battles have been significantly enhanced! Witness the conclusion of the Erdrick Trilogy depicted in HD-2D with your own eyes!

Introducing the Beginning of the Adventure! Explore the Lands of Alefgard, Guided by a Mysterious Voice!
Led by a mysterious voice heard in a dream, the protagonist (you) arrives at Tantegel Castle. The king advises you to investigate the legendary hero, Erdrick, and the guiding voice, sending you toward Erdrick’s Hollow and the Shrine of Rain. Listen to the stories of people you meet along the way as you explore the lands of Alefgard where the legend of Erdrick remains!
—Make preparations before setting out on your adventure!
Receive useful items and gold coins from the king of Tantegel. Use the money to buy items and equipment. Remember, you must equip items to use them!
—Depart Tantegel and head for Erdrick’s Hollow!
Use the shortcut button to register your favorite commands as shortcut keys. It’s super handy for instantly using recovery items you find in sparkling spots on the field!
—Battle monsters in the overworld and dungeons!
In this game, you can check monsters’ statuses when selecting commands. Choose your attacks while keeping an eye on your opponents!
—Dungeons and caves are packed with treasure!
Dungeon exploration is dangerous, but treasures like scrolls and mini medals lie hidden within. Deliver your collected mini medals to the person gathering them and you’ll receive luxurious items in return.

As you progress through Dragon Quest II, the faeries will ask you for a favor. Collect the living memories scattered across the ocean floor to unravel the history of Alefgard.
—The Record-Keeper, who manages the faeries’ memories, asks you to gather the living memories inscribed with Alefgard’s history.
—It seems Hargon’s minions scattered these living memories across the ocean floor. Talk to those familiar with the sea, like the merfolk, and search the ocean floor thoroughly!

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake launches October 30 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. The remake offers new content in both Dragon Quest I and II, including new scenarios, dungeons, enemies, and the seabed area, where the city of Almeha and other intriguing findings await.
Pre-orders for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake are available now for $59.99 with the Trouble-Free Travel Kit as an additional bonus. Moreover, a Collector’s Edition will be available in the Square Enix Store, and the game will be a game-key card title in Japan. As previously confirmed, players with Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake save data will receive the Marvelous Makeover Kit featuring a dog suit in Dragon Quest I and a cat suit in Dragon Quest II.
