Can you introduce yourself and your role in the development of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin?

Do-Hyung Koo: Hello, I’m Do-Hyung Koo, and I’m the Executive Producer of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin. It’s a pleasure to speak with you. As Executive Producer, I oversee the overall vision and direction of the project, from shaping the core gameplay experience to ensuring that the world of The Seven Deadly Sins is faithfully reimagined as an open-world action RPG.

What were some goals the team had in mind when development of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin began? Did you and the team draw any inspiration from other open-world games?

Do-Hyung Koo: When we began development, the team’s biggest goal was to respect the main flow and lore of the original series while also building our own original storyline. From the very beginning, a core objective was to bring together the many beloved characters from the original so that players could enjoy and interact with them all within the game.

Throughout development, we studied not only the open-world genre but also a variety of other acclaimed titles, carefully analyzing the key elements of fun that players expect from an open world. Rather than simply borrowing ideas from existing games, however, we focused on reinterpreting those shared elements through the unique lens of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin’s world and identity.

Was The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin always planned to be an open-world game?

Do-Hyung Koo: The world of The Seven Deadly Sins is vast and diverse, filled with many unique regions. We wanted players to actually explore and experience the locations and settings that appeared in the original story, and we felt that the open-world genre was the best way to bring that vision to life.

At the same time, the demand for open-world games is very high in the global market, and we saw an opportunity to combine our technical expertise with the strength of the IP to engage players worldwide. Within the team as well, there was a strong desire to take on this new challenge.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin features an original story starring Prince Tristan of the Kingdom of Liones and Four Knights of the Apocalypse. Did Netmarble consult author Nakaba Suzuki regarding the creative process of the game’s story?

Do-Hyung Koo: Currently, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is set in the world between the original The Seven Deadly Sins and its sequel, Four Knights of the Apocalypse. While respecting the original storyline, we also added a new timeline and events unique to the game, allowing players to expand the adventure themselves. In other words, our goal was to provide longtime fans with a story that feels both familiar and fresh, while offering new players an original narrative that’s easy to step into.

We’ve been working closely with author Nakaba Suzuki throughout development. He has personally contributed to the design and illustrations of original characters, as well as advised on key story developments. This collaboration ensures that while we preserve the authenticity of the source material, we can also bring in unique interpretations that make the game stand out.

The Seven Deadly Sins Origin

Players will be able to play with their friends online in The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin. Could you discuss what some of the game’s online modes will entail?

Do-Hyung Koo: The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is primarily designed as a single-player experience focused on story and exploration, but all of this content can also be enjoyed in multiplayer with friends. From field bosses and dungeons to open-world exploration and collection activities, players can experience a wide range of content together in party play, adding another layer of fun through cooperation. We also plan to introduce new event-based content and multiplayer modes through regular updates. Our goal is to deliver not only the appeal of exploring an open world solo, but also an expanded experience where you can share adventures with friends anytime, anywhere.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2025, giving attendees a hands-on experience with the game’s story and open-world setting. Is Netmarble planning to release a demo or beta before launch?

Do-Hyung Koo: The Closed Beta Test is scheduled to begin at the end of October. Its core purpose is to validate the player experience. We’ll be focusing on checking combat balance, exploration difficulty, puzzle design, and server stability.

The test will cover early story content, the core combat system, and exploration of select open-world regions, allowing players to directly experience the overall fun of the game and provide us with valuable feedback.

What can players expect after the launch of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin?

Do-Hyung Koo: Even after its official launch, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will continue to expand through regular updates, adding new regions, stories, characters, dungeons, and boss content. This will not only deliver the kind of worldbuilding expansion that fans of the original expect, but also ensure that new players can keep discovering fresh adventures.

We also plan to add a variety of modes, including events, co-op content, and seasonal features, so players can enjoy both the fun of solo play and the excitement of cooperating with friends.

Most importantly, we’ll actively incorporate player feedback to continuously improve balance and convenience. In the long term, we’re even considering updates on the scale of full expansion packs.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

To all the fans who have cherished and waited for The Seven Deadly Sins series, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is a project that both respects the charm of the original work and expands it in our own unique way.

Our development team has poured in countless hours of thought and effort to ensure that players can directly explore the world, adventure alongside beloved characters, and experience new moments of excitement. Even after launch, we will continue to listen, grow, and evolve the game into something you can enjoy for years to come.

We hope you’ll look forward to the journey ahead, and we can’t wait to meet you in Britannia. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your time, Do-Hyung Koo!
