Sony Interactive Entertainment released its financial results for the three months ended on June 30, 2025, revealing that PlayStation 5 sales have exceeded 80 million units worldwide. Roughly 80.3 million PlayStation 5 units have been shipped.
According to sales numbers from the financial results, 2.5 million PlayStation 5 units were shipped worldwide during the latest quarter. This is up 100,000 units from the same period during the previous fiscal year.
123 million active users were on PlayStation Network as of June 30, which is up seven million from the same period exactly one year ago, which had 116 million active users. Combined PS4 and PS5 software sales reached 65.9 million units during the quarter, resulting in a 12.3 million increase year-over-year.
6.9 million of the software sales were first-party games, which is up 900,000 units from the same period last fiscal year, which had 6.0 million units. What’s more, 83% of the software sales were full game digital downloads, resulting in a 3% year-over-year increase.
Hideaki Nishino is the president and sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, effective April 1, 2025. Previously, he was a joint-CEO alongside Hermen Hulst. Hulst serves CEO of the Studio Business Group.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently established teamLFG, a new studio that originated from developers within Bungie. teamLFG has rallied additional developers from across the industry to develop an “ambitious incubation project.”
