Lexar has announced the new PLAY 2280 SE PCIe 4.0 4TB SSD, designed for use on the PlayStation 5. It is available to order at select local and online retailers.

Two new internal SSDs are available from Lexar: the PLAY 2280 SE PCIe 4.0 4TB SSD and the NM790 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. The former has 7000MB/s max read and 6000MB/s max write speeds and 4 TB of storage, and it costs $224.99.

Lexar has more key feature details on its site:

  • Designed to match and enhance the PS5 gaming experience
  • Exceptional performance of 7000MB/s max read and 6000MB/s max write
  • Tested and approved storage for the PS5 console
  • 4TB capacity lets you store about 100+ AAA games
  • Users can play games directly from the drive

The Lexar NM790 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, on the other hand, has read speeds up to 7400MB/s to improve load times while optimizing power efficiency for extended battery life. It is available at Costco for $219.99. It’s worth noting that, due to the limitations of the PlayStation 5, read speeds for both internal SSDs is capped at 6300MB/s.

Players will be able to use the improved storage for upcoming PlayStation 5 games, such as Ghost of Yōtei. The game will release on October 2. Recently, PlayStation held a State of Play focused on the title, which showed off three new special modes will be available in Ghost of Yōtei.

The modes are Kurosawa mode, which adds a black and white filter, an audio filter, film grain, and increased wind, Miike mode, which adds a closer camera and more blood and mud, and Watanabe mode, which adds a lo-fi soundtrack which plays during exploration and combat.
