WEBTOON announced that Jo Yong-seok’s Wind Breaker manhwa has been canceled after 12 years. The manhwa has been one of the most popular titles on WEBTOON, averaging over 600M views.
WEBTOON and Jo Yong-seok released the statement on Friday, July 11. They confirmed that the Wind Breaker series had been canceled, as several cases of plagiarism had been reported. Jo Yong-seok confirmed these allegations with a message included in chapter 177.
Jo Yong-seok later went on to apologize to fans for letting them down. He stated, “Among the reference materials I used while working, some scenes turned out to be very similar to or almost identical in expression to those from other works.”
However, he immediately accepted his faults and expressed remorse at not being able to complete the series. Since the series ended prematurely, Jo told fans he would be releasing the manuscript on his blog so fans could at least know how it would have ended.
Before its cancellation, the manhwa has enjoyed massive success since the first chapter was released in 2013, and Jo Yong-seok was once praised as one of the best creators in the world.
