Naughty Dog has released a new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, adding a new Chronological mode for the game’s story. The update, which also includes new bug fixes and costumes for No Return mode, is available now on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
As the name implies, the new mode will allow players to experience the story of The Last of Us Part II in chronological order. In a PlayStation Blog post, Naughty Dog said the following about the update: “Through the new Chronological mode, we believe players will gain even deeper insight into Part II’s narrative. Players will be able to see how Ellie being gifted a guitar flows so neatly into her learning to play, for example, while the journey through Seattle will showcase the fascinating parallels between Ellie and Abby’s crisscrossing journeys. You’ll see just how close they come into running into each other, how their actions impact each other, and more.”
There are also new trophies and rewards tied to completion of the mode. One of the rewards includes new cosmetics for Joel and Tommy in the No Return mode. The cosmetics are based on Nathan and Sam Drake, respectively. These commemorate the 40th anniversary of Naughty Dog.
In an earlier interview with Variety, Neil Druckmann, hinted at the series’ end. When asked about the possibility of The Last of Us Part III, Druckmann stated, “I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of Last of Us. This could be it.” Naughty Dog’s next game will likely be Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
