In a new interview with Esquire, Adi Shankar announced that he’s acquired the rights for Duke Nukem. It will likely be adapted into an animated series similar to Castlevania and Devil May Cry.
In the interview, he states that he purchased the rights from Gearbox. He describes his “vision” for the character as a “a middle finger to everybody. When Duke Nukem blew up, a bunch of people sat around trying to turn it into a brand, when it’s just a middle finger. Duke Nukem can’t be made by a corporation, because the moment a corporation makes Duke Nukem, it’s no longer Duke Nukem. I don’t intend on having anyone tell me what to do on this one.”
The last main entry in the franchise, Duke Nukem Forever, released in 2011. Critics and fans alike panned the game due to it being in development hell for so long and launching with poor graphics, dated mechanics, and lackluster story. Adi Shankar most recently produced the divisive animated adaptation of Devil May Cry for Netflix, alongside Studio Mir. The series premiered on April 3 on Netflix. Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’” is the opening theme song. The series will have multiple seasons, with a season 2 currently in development. The English cast is as follows:
- Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante
- Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady
- Hoon Lee as White Rabbit
- Kevin Conroy as VP Baines
- Chris Coppola as Enzo
The entire Devil May Cry series is available on most modern platforms. This includes Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, and the most recent entry, Devil May Cry 5. Lastly, Devil May Cry 5 is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
