No longer planned to release on March 26, 2027.

Nintendo has delayed the release of the new The Legend of Zelda live-action movie to May 7, 2027. The movie was previously planned to premiere on March 26, 2027, but Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that “production reasons” have delayed the premiere of The Legend of Zelda.

The official Nintendo X (formerly Twitter) account shared the following statement, “This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”

Wes Ball directs the upcoming The Legend of Zelda live-action movie. In the past, Ball directed The Maze Runner franchise and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The movie is produced by Arad Productions, known for its work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Kraven the Hunter, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Uncharted, and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid film. Nintendo is co-financing the film with Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Moreover, the next entry in the Super Mario Bros. Movie franchise will release in April 24, 2026, just one year prior. The new Super Mario Bros. animated movie from Nintendo and Illumination will be titled Super Mario World, according to NBCUniversal’s news release regarding its upcoming slate of films.

Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5 for $449.99. A bundle is available for $499.99 featuring Mario Kart World. Games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are also available.
