Relooted Announced During Day of the Devs 2025

A game where you steal artifacts and return them to their home countries.

During the recent Day of the Devs showcase, Nyamakop announced a brand new game called Relooted. It will release on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The game takes place in the near future, where a new treaty has been signed between the West and Africa. The treaty states that all African artifacts that are on public display at museums must be returned to their home country. However, museums are exploiting a loophole to avoid repatriation by only exhibiting artifacts in private. You play as a group of regular people who must work together to see these artifacts returned to their home.

Believe it or not, Relooted is based on a very real problem. As stated by one of the game’s developers, “in the real world, a French government report estimated that 90% of Sub-Saharan African culture heritage is in the possession of Western collections. That is millions upon millions of deeply important cultural, spiritual, and personal artifacts, including human remains, that aren’t in their rightful place. While the locations in the game are vague and invented, the 70 artifacts in Relooted are very much real.”

Before each mission, there is a briefing where players will learn more about these artifacts, their history, and how they were taken. The game is a combination of action and puzzle. The puzzle comes in figuring out your plan of attack by casing the museum and planning out your attack. Then you must sneak into your destination before stealing the artifact, and quickly escaping.
