A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced that Alex Garland will write and direct a live action adaptation of Elden Ring. Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R. R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis will produce.
Alex Garland has previously worked on sci-fi films such as Ex Machina and Annihilation, as well as darker, more realistic movies like Men and Civil War. His most recent film was Warfare, which provides a deeper examination of the Iraq War. He is also the writer of the upcoming 28 Years Later movie.
This is not A24’s only video game adaptation in development, as the company behind Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, The Lighthouse, Midsommar, and Talk to Me will produce a Death Stranding film. Michael Sarnoski will direct the movie and Hideo Kojima will produce it.
Recently, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced Elden Ring surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide. Roughly five million copies have been sold since the last sales update for Elden Ring in June 2024. The game initially released in 2022.
The sales will continue to grow when Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition comes to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will feature the base game and the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in one package. Moreover, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will feature new armor and customization features for Torrent’s appearance.
The next game in the series, Elden Ring Nightreign, will release on May 30 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders for Elden Ring Nightreign are available at Bandai Namco Entertainment Store, participating retailers, and digital storefronts.
