Shigeru Miyamoto Reveals Desire to Grow Pikmin Brand, Including Potential Movie

A movie is not out of the question.

In a new interview with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed his desire to grow the Pikmin brand with projects beyond games. This could include new attractions at Super Nintendo World and even a full-fledged movie or TV show adaptation.

During the interview, Miyamoto said that he has spent “the past five, six years really wanting to grow Pikmin.” He states that he wanted to see if people can engage with the series beyond the video games and that unlike other Nintendo characters like Mario or Link, the Pikmin have the potential to appear with those characters without the need for explanation. When asked about the prospect of Pikmin showing up in movies, TV shows, and theme park attractions, Shigeru Miyamoto said the following:

“…I think Pikmin has a lot of potential to be used in many different occasions. When you’re looking at small kids, they have a certain appeal for things that are cute and when they grow older, maybe in their twenties, they start to lose appeal for that. But I think Pikmin has this unique ability to have appeal across a broad range in that it’s still appealing for both younger audiences and older audiences and in Japan. And so I’m hoping that we can expand that globally. So whether it’s some kind of a movie or show, things like that would be really fun.”

The Pikmin franchise will likely continue with Nintendo’s next console, the Nintendo Switch 2. It will launch on June 5 for $449.99. A bundle will be available for $499.99 featuring Mario Kart World
