Epic Games has announced that Fortnite has been blocked on iOS devices worldwide after attempting to re-submit the game on the App Store. The game will be unavailable to download or play on the App Store in the United States and via the Epic Games Store in the European Union. It is currently unknown if or when Apple will unblock the game on iOS devices worldwide.
In a statement, the official Fortnite Twitter/X Account said the following: “Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.”
Apple initially took Fortnite off of the App Store due to Epic Games having its own store front within the game, which went against Apple’s rules. The two companies have been in an ongoing legal battle ever since, but a recent court order tipped the odds in Epic’s favor. The court order states that Apple will no longer be able to take a commission from purchases made outside of the App Store.
Currently, a season based on the Star Wars franchise is ongoing within Fortnite. The season started on May 2 and features characters such as Chewbacca, Darth Jar Jar, Emperor Palpatine, and more. There will be new weapons, maps, Fortnite Festival music tracks, and even customizable lightsabers. The season, titled Galactic Battle, is available now in Fortnite on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Android devices.
