Square Enix is collaborating with Tokyo Broadcast System Television, or TBS TV for short, to develop a new original intellectual property game. The game will reinforce TBS TV’s brand promise of “From each moment, a better tomorrow” under the “EDGE (Expand Digital Global Experience)” strategy.
TBS TV wants to challenge itself by pioneering digital content and growing its global content brand. The establishment of TBS Games in July 2023 is part of this challenge, with a focus on creating new IPs from games. The new IP game from Square Enix and TBS TV is being developed for domestic (Japan) and overseas markets, and it will combine the experiences and strengths of each company from their respective fields, according to the press release.
Square Enix also canceled development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, since it was determined that it would be difficult for the developers to offer a service that would be satisfactory for players. Although Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link has been canceled, Square Enix is still developing Kingdom Hearts IV.
Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was revealed alongside the highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV during the 20th anniversary event in April 2022. Similarly to Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was supposed to tell a story that bridges the gap between plot threads long before Sora’s journey in the original game. Before its cancellation, the game was delayed back in November 2024.
