Yuji Horii Reportedly Confirms A Remake of Chrono Trigger Is In The Works at Comicon Napoli 2025

    Could the legendary game return?

UPDATE: Following the release of video footage, it has been determined that the translator for this panel mistranslated Horii’s comment. u/Linkpharm2 translated his comment as “Back then, you know, when talks began about making a game together with Square, uh, we discussed with them what kind of setting it should be, and since I liked time travel, the concept of being able to fight bosses in the necessary eras is how Chrono Trigger was made.”

This then led to the translation of “Among other things, I believe I grasped, if I remember correctly, that a remake of the game is in progress, or has it already come out?” You can read the full transcript here.

At Comicom Napoli 2025, multiple guests have shared that Yuji Horii, who appeared in a panel as a guest, has confirmed a remake of Chrono Trigger is in the works. This has popped up on Reddit, with attendees all sharing that the legendary creator accidentally slipped up about this upcoming project. Fans who were in attendance stated that Horii communicated with a translator after acknowledging a remake and then covered his mouth.

According to Reddit User TheFishyOne, who was in the audience, the following was said: “I can confirm I was among those who cheered. He said something along the line of what you said and the interviewer said “Wait, if that’s true, this is big” The translator asked for a confirmation to Horii who presumably understood that he shouldn’t have said that and the translator commented: “You have heard nothing””

Another user who attended posted to the r/ChronoTrigger subreddit, sharing, “The father of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger let this information slip during an interview. The host whispered something in his ear, and he covered his mouth. The audience went crazy.”
