After the release of the version 20.0.0 update for the Nintendo Switch family of systems, users have discovered a serious issue with the firmware update, and Nintendo has acknowledged the situation with an official statement.
In some cases, after the 20.0.0 update, Nintendo Switch users are greeted with an error code, which prompts the user to turn off the console by holding the power button. Nintendo of Japan has responded with the following statement on X (formerly Twitter):
“We have received many inquiries from select few users that have claimed that upon updating their Nintendo Switch to the new version 20.0.0, the error code 2206-1015 will appear. We are currently investigating this issue, and will provide an update and ask players to wait for further information.”
If you’re unaware, the 20.0 update finally added the new Virtual Game Cards, as well as the new GameShare system that allows players to share their titles with their friends or Nintendo Switch Online Family Group, likely in preparation for the Switch 2 launch. Until a fix is issued for this Nintendo Switch issue, it might be good to hold off on updating until then.
The update also introduced GameShare with compatible software on Nintendo Switch 2, online license settings, and much more. The update also adds support for the system transfer feature from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2, which can allow players to choose an optional transfer from a dedicated service. Moreover, select user profile icons were changed on Nintendo Switch with the release of update 20.0.0. For example, the Donkey Kong profile icon has been changed to reflect the character’s appearance in Donkey Kong Bananza.
