A recent report from Deadline has announced that a film adaptation of the OutRun arcade game is in development. Michael Bay will direct the movie, while Sydney Sweeney will produce it.
OutRun initially released in 1986 in arcades. It would later release for the Genesis, Game Gear, and select modern consoles. Michael Bay is a controversial director has previously worked on Ambulance, 6 Underground, Armageddon, The Rock, and the Transformers franchise.
Sydney Sweeney is known for her roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, The Handmaid’s Tale, Madame Web, Immaculate, and Anyone But You. She will soon star in films such as Echo Valley, The Housemaid, and Scandalous. She’s also in talks to star in the upcoming Gundam live action adaptation.
OutRun is available on the Nintendo Switch via the SEGA Ages line. The eShop describes the game as follows:

In 2019, Yu Suzuki (the series’ original designer), stated that he would want to return to the OutRun franchise one day alongside Virtua Fighter. While there is a new Virtua Fighter in development, the future of the OutRun franchise is unknown. The upcoming film adaptation is currently in development from Michael Bay and Sydney Sweeney.
