Dark Horse Comics announced that it will be publishing The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope – The Manga. It will feature new art and other insights of the creative process for Hisao Tamaki’s original 1997 Star Wars: A New Hope manga.

The announcement comes courtesy of the ongoing Star Wars Celebration 2025 event. Dark Horse and Lucasfilm are holding a Kickstarter campaign to fund the art book of the manga. A retail version will be available around the world. Further, special Collector’s and Masterpiece Editions will also release. However, they will only be available via Kickstarter. The campaign has not yet launched. Lucasfilm describes it as follows:

A long time ago, in the center of Japan’s exploding otaku culture, artist Hisao Tamaki reimagined Star Wars: A New Hope in a bold new way—earning an Eisner Award in the process and capturing the hearts of fans worldwide with his manga adaptation of the landmark motion picture.

Now, Dark Horse Comics and Lucasfilm celebrate this iconic adaptation with The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope—The Manga, a deluxe hardcover release showcasing Tamaki’s never-before-seen art boards in their original right-to-left orientation. For the first time, fans will be able to experience Tamaki’s stunning unaltered artwork complete with blue pencil marks, pasted captions, and editorial notes that offer a rare window into the creative process, along with a new English translation of the boards’ original lettering.

Star Wars Celebration 2025 recently featured reveals for titles such as Star Wars Zero Company. There will also be news on the upcoming third season of the anthology series, Star Wars: Visions
