Nintendo has indefinitely delayed the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 in China to sort through both regulatory issues and market demand in the region.
This news follows Nintendo’s announcement that the company would delay pre-orders in the United States to assess “evolving market conditions,” with updated pre-order timing promised for a later date. A delay was also placed on pre-orders in Canada in hopes of aligning with the USA.
Even prior to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo faced harsh conditions in bringing the console to the region. Nintendo Switch launched in China in 2019, just two years after launch, but Nintendo has faced numerous regulatory issues that have prevented the console from selling as well as it could have.
Last November, Nintendo revealed that the Nintendo Switch eShop and other online services will end in China starting March 31, 2026. No new games will be purchaseable after this date, even including DLC. On May 15, 2026, users will no longer be able to download any games or redeem any codes on the eShop. With the eShop impending a shutdown, it’s logical that Nintendo has opted to delay the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
Nintendo Switch 2 will release worldwide on June 5, 2025. Mario Kart World will release alongside the system. The console will be available to purchase for $449.99 at launch in the United States, as confirmed by Nintendo.
