Nintendo of America Vice President of Product and Player Experience Bill Trinen confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ($69.99) and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ($99.99) will cost $10. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs will apply to physical and digital copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom for the original Nintendo Switch.
When asked about the $80 price of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games by IGN, Trinen had the following to say, “Well, again, what I would say is that we just look at each individual game and we look at the content and the value of that game, and then we say, ‘what is the right price for the value of this entertainment?’
“What I would probably counter to some of that is that really what you’re looking at is for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, that’s the physical price for somebody that has not bought the base game. For somebody who has bought Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, the upgrade packs for those are $9.99. And if you happen to be a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member, both of the Zelda upgrade packs are inclusive within that membership. So there’s no additional charge for those.”
Although we expect other Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades to also cost $10, pricing for upgrade packs to Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land were not directly confirmed.
Lastly, Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5, and a bundle featuring Mario Kart World will be available. Pre-orders were initially set to go live on April 9, but Nintendo is evaluating potential impacts of recent tariffs in the United States.
