In a new interview with CNBC, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser shared that the company “didn’t consider tariffs” when pricing the Nintendo Switch 2. Many speculated that the $449.99 price was a result of the company pricing in potential tariffs enacted by United States President Donald Trump, but this was shot down by Bowser.
“As we priced the Switch 2, the price we announced today of $449 for the single SKU, we didn’t consider tariffs into that equation. We felt that that was going to be the right price point for our consumers and the right value proposition for the device we are creating.”
This news follows Nintendo’s announcement that the company would delay pre-orders in the United States to assess “evolving market conditions,” with updated pre-order timing promised for a later date. Regardless of this delay in the United States, Europe has gone on with its pre-order process, as have many other countries and continents.
Nintendo Switch 2 is set to feature major upgrades to its predecessor, including a 1080P 7.9-inch display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR/HDR support, 4K resolution output when docked, and more. The system is set to be released worldwide on June 5, 2025. Mario Kart World will release alongside Switch 2. The console will be available to purchase for $449.99 at launch in the United States.
